About
I’m Dr. Matthew R. Schottland, Psy.D., a licensed clinical psychologist with over 16 years of experience as a psychotherapist, professor, consultant, and guest speaker.
My work is informed by an integration of Western and Eastern healing wisdom, including contemporary psychoanalytic theory and technique, mindfulness practices, and the therapeutic and spiritual potential of Ketamine and plant medicines. I believe self-awareness and insight coupled with active behavioral shifts are the key ingredients in creating lasting change in one’s life. I hold certificates in Contemporary Approaches to Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy (Institute for Contemporary Psychotherapy and Psychoanalysis (ICP&P, 2023) and Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) (Ketamine Training Center, 2025)
In addition to my private practice in Farragut Square, I also see clients part-time for Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy at Washington Interventional Psychiatry in the Spring Valley neighborhood of NW DC.
My Philosophy
I believe that therapy should be an intentional and empowering process — one that helps you live your life with greater meaning, purpose, and fulfillment. Finding your personal agency is key. My approach is rooted in contemporary psychoanalytic theory, while also drawing from mindfulness practices, meditation, and psychedelic-assisted therapies to support deeper healing.
